PROJECT LOOP
Posted on November 23, 2013
My friend Chris Bilheimer invited me to participate in a pretty cool group show put on by Project Loop. They’re currently fundraising for a skate park in Taylor, TX, and asked 50 artists to donate their skills decorating blank skate decks from Create a Skate, to be auctioned for the fundraiser. The number quickly rose to over 100, including some really impressive artists. I was totally honored to be included.
I had a drawing from a while back that I hadn’t quite found the right occasion to use, and thought it’d be perfect for this. An ill-fated hare in mid-jump called “Lucky Jack”. I wood-burned the line-work and finished it out with watercolor and a little acrylic.
After getting started on the first side and sketching the under-skeleton to make sure my anatomy was right, I thought the raw skeleton looked too rad not to use and decided to make my board two-sided.
WIP of the flip-side of the board with my little pyrography tool.
And the finished piece. It’s “nice try” and “get lucky”, in case my text is tough to read. Gut words and field words. The auction is ongoing, and will end December 2nd. Go flip through the gallery if only just to see all of the amazing work , and if you’re so inclined, bid on a board and support a really good cause. Here’s the link to mine, and also some of my favorites: Bonethrower, Deerjerk, Diana Sudyka, Justin David Cox, Lauren Dickens, Mike Combs, and Mishka Westell. Let’s build these kids a skate park!
THE WALLS AT HELM
Posted on April 18, 2013
I’m a little slow on the draw posting about this, but I have a handful of new watercolors hanging on the walls at Helm’s gorgeous new shop on E. 6th. This lady is 9″x14″, watercolor on a roughed-up piece of Arches Cold Press. They’re all matted, and framed in the finest thrift store frame stock 3 to 5 dollars can buy (I’m fancy).
Check them out if you get the chance, along with Helm’s spring line of boots. They’re also carrying a select grouping of handmade products, and they have impeccable taste, so there’s no shortage of beautiful things to look at/go home with. Oh, also! You can buy the limited edition screen print I designed for them as well. It’s pretty affordable at 25$, and I’m super-happy with how it came out.
If you need ONE MORE reason to go, the Pueblo Viejo taco trailer across the street has the good shit. I could eat their veggie taco every day.
